Everyday Cardigan Class:  “Sounds of Life”, by Andrea Rangel
taught by Ruth Boelkins, ruth.boelkins@gmail.com

Here’s a sweater that will be easy to wear.  It’s a classic piece that has some surprising details,
and it’s really fun to make.  The yarn weight is worsted, and the pattern is easy to customize for
the shape you want - fitted, relaxed, longer, shorter.  Ruth will guide you through the pattern
and help you to be successful in making a lovely cardigan that will fit - selecting yarn, getting
gauge & choosing the size and ease that you want.

Special techniques include 3 needle bind off to join pieces at the shoulders, picking up stitches
for button bands and collar, setting in sleeves, and shaping with increases and decreases.
This is an intermediate level project that keeps you interested but is also not overly
complicated.  As with any class, you learn a lot as you go, and there are always extra tips and
techniques that you can add to your knitting skills.

Enjoy the encouragement of working on a sweater with others and with the help of an
instructor.  Classes are low key and you make your sweater at your own pace - extra drop in
help sessions are included, and you can always contact Ruth for assistance between classes.
You can also substitute coming to a drop in for a class date that you need to miss - easy to
stay on track and always get help.

Yarn that is a wool or wool blend is great. It should be a substantial worsted weight that would
knit up nicely on a size 8 needle @ 4 stitches per inch.
Here are some suggestions:
100% superwash wools:
Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Worsted, Malabrigo Rios, Madelinetosh Vintage, Dragonfly
Fibers Valkyrie
Economical wool/acrylic blend:  Berroco Vintage & Plymouth Encore

Other:        Bring any of your needles in sizes 7- 9 to the first class (any length circular or
straight is fine), along with one skein of your yarn wound and ready.  We will work a gauge
swatch together, and then you will be able to determine what needles you need for the project.
Do not purchase needles listed for the sweater before getting started!  Throughout the
duration of the class, whenever you need to purchase needles or notions or more yarn for the
project, you will receive 10% off.
