|All New “Shawl Adventure” Class
with Ruth Boelkins
Learn how to create a basic triangle shaped shawl, and put your own creative spin on it!
We will begin with a garter tab cast on (Ruth’s easy version), and use the yarn over increase stitch
and markers to start growing the triangle shape. Learn how to keep it all on track, use a life line, and
Add colors, carry colors when making stripes, and decide how to finish the edge of your shawl with a
basic bind off or picot bind off, block, and get ideas for your next shawl creation.
This will be a 3 session class. The shawl takes 3 skeins of worsted weight yarn. Classes will be 2
weeks apart, and if you knit 100 to 200 yards a week, you can even be binding off during the final
class. All techniques will be demonstrated on samples, so you will learn everything, even if you make
slower progress. Work at your own pace and have fun!
All supplies for class must be purchased at Country Needleworks, and you receive 10% off.
Please purchase 3 skeins of about 200yds each worsted weight yarn - you may choose anything that
you like. Keep in mind that wool and wool blends will block out nicely and be drapey in the end, and
acrylic will not. Cottons and other fibers would be drapey and nice as well. Select all one color or
different colors. You will be the designer of the color pattern of your shawl, so be as bold as you like!
Needle: Please bring or purchase a size 9 circular needle in length 24”, 32” or 40”
Pattern: "Grain" by Tin Can Knits. It’s free on Ravelry, so you can download and print it,
or Ruth will have copies.
We are using it as a template, so we will be adding lots of other details.
Other needs: 4 stitch markers in a size that is very close to your needle circumference
You don’t want big floppy markers or anything too fancy. Purchase or bring simple circle markers.
