|Summer Pullover Class: “Derecho”, by Allison Green
taught by Ruth Boelkins, firstname.lastname@example.org
Want an easy to wear & light sweater for warmer weather? This design is fun to
make, & you can easily customize the shape and length to suit your style. It’s knit
in DK or sport weight, & several fibers would be great options. Sample is made
with lovely Berroco “Summer Silk”, a cotton/silk blend that is super soft. You
could choose superwash wool, other cotton blends, linen, hemp, or almost
anything you want for warm temps. Some fibers will make a fabric with more drape
than others, but that would also work well with this style.
This is a top down design, and it’s suitable for a new sweater knitter and anyone
else. Learn how to make a sweater that fits you the way you want it to! Ruth is an
experienced instructor and loves to guide you in the process, from beginning
with correct gauge and size selection, to creating the shape and length as you go.
Special techniques include working a circular sweater yoke with eyelet increases,
short rows, directional increases for raglan sleeves, and finishing methods like
sleeve edges & blocking.

Contact Ruth if you would like advice on yarn selection! Our staff is also very
knowledgeable about yarn, and you want to choose something that is dk or sport, and will
work for the 22 stitches per 4” gauge. We will make a sample swatch in class and determine
the needles that you need. Ruth has needles to borrow for this process, but bring any that
you have in sizes 4-6. Have one skein of your yarn all wound and ready. Do not purchase
needles for the sweater before class. Throughout the duration of the class, whenever you
need to purchase needles or notions or more yarn for the project, you will receive 10% off.
